A huge plastic dragon arrived in the EU quarter today, as the Rethink Plastic alliance called on EU decision-makers not to water down new laws to cut plastic pollution. The detail of the final agreement is currently being negotiated between the European Commission, Parliament and Council.

Europe is more dependent on imported resources than any other region in the world. As the global population increases, nations in the Global South expand their economies, and more people lead resource-intensive lifestyles, there is more pressure than ever on the earth's decreasing resources. This reinforces social inequalities and environmental damage.

Friends of the Earth Europe is calling for resource justice. We need Europe's resource use to be measured, and consumption levels to reduce. We recognise the environmental, economic and social benefits of reducing Europe's resource consumption, and advocates for a sufficiency-led approach to resource consumption.
