Fossil Free Europe Delivering a just transition to a 100% renewable, no nuclear, super energy-efficient, zero-fossil-fuel Europe by 2030

6 February 2020

Europe’s energy system is deeply wasteful - our energy consumption is too high, and we're not improving.

Inefficient buildings losing heat from all sides. Cheap untaxed flights over short distances. Ad billboards flashing images into the night sky. Our economies consume tremendous amounts of energy - preventing the switch to 100% renewable energy.

One of the world’s most famous actors and activists, Mark Ruffalo, who plays 'The Hulk', has today weighed into Europe’s climate debate, urging members of the European Parliament in Brussels to vote against a list of priority EU energy infrastructure projects next week, as it could subsidise 55 new fossil fuel projects, including those that facilitate the import and transport of US fracked gas.

The world is on track to global warming in excess of 3˚C, yet the commitments made by political leaders fall far short of what is needed to protect vulnerable and poor people across the world. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Friends of the Earth Europe is working to create the much-needed, fair and urgent transition to a fossil fuel free Europe by 2030. This means dismantling the fossil fuel system and creating the just, clean energy future that people want and need.
